ESCC Hall of Fame inducts nine in '17 class

Along with some highly successful prep and collegiate athletes, and legendary coaches, the 12th East Suburban Catholic Conference Hall of Fame class includes an all-time NCAA Football passing leader, an Olympian and a distinguished longtime administrator. In all, nine individuals were inducted on Thursday, April 6 at Abbington Banquet Hall in Glen Ellyn.
Benet Academy’s Dan LeFevour ’05 headlines an impressive class, as he followed up an impressive Redwing career at Central Michigan University, becoming the lone quarterback in NCAA history with 12,000 passing yards and 2,500 rushing yards. LeFevour currently plays in the Canadian Football League with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Notre Dame 2003 graduate Abe Badmus added to his ESCC MVP honor by leading Bucknell University to two NCAA Tournament appearances during his span as a four-year starter. He also competed with the Nigerian National Olympic Team.
Brian Glorioso, Athletic Director at Saint Patrick since 1993, also headlines an impressive class. Glorioso has been on staff with the Shamrocks since 1977, currently serves the ESCC as treasurer, and has served on several IHSA and ICOPS committees.
In a career that spanned 1994 to 2008, former Carmel Catholic Principal Fr. Robert Carroll supervised the Mundelein school earning three Blue Ribbons from the U.S. Department of Education. His tenure saw Carmel Catholic excel in enrollment increase, facilities upgrades and impressive sports profile advances.
Three coaches also join the Hall of Fame, including Marian Catholic’s 14-year men’s basketball mentor and current Associate Athletic Director Mike Taylor. The Illinois State University graduate ranks as the Spartans’ all-time winningest coach and has led Marian to two IHSA Elite Eight Appearances.
A pair of Nazareth Academy coaches also made the grade, including Wayne Saunders, who led the women’s volleyball team to 272 victories and seven IHSA Regional crowns in 11 years at the helm (22 overall). Another Roadrunner boss, Douglas Hunt, guided the soccer program to 119 wins, three regional titles and one sectional crown.
The Class is rounded out by another two standout athletes in Saint Patrick 1990 grad and football star Jonathan Kerr, who earned 2nd Team All-Big Ten honors at University of Illinois, and Benet former ESCC soccer Player of the Year Stefanie Foley Hull ’04, who had an outstanding career at DePaul University.
Five team IHSA state champions will be recognized as well, including 1987 Marist Wrestling, 2007 Saint Viator Men’s Golf and Joliet Catholic football champions from 1977, 1987 and 2007.The 12th ESCC Hall of Fame class brings the number of current inductees to 126, representing nine of the current 10 member schools and former members Fenwick, Holy Cross, Providence Catholic and Saint Joseph.
